lyrics

Verse 1
And now the truth is I have felt the winds over my back.
I’ve heard whispering about playing games of chance.
I’ve seen the sunrise over mountains in a town that I grew up in.
It couldn’t hold it’s own to you.

Cards change hands, these are the rules we’ve learned to play with.
A sleight of hand could change the outcome of this deck.
When I got home there was a paper bag full of my things,
Said “Mr. Taylor, this was fun but this won't last”.

And I was dreaming,
About the things that used to matter most.

Verse 2
And I was once in love, hopeless and romantic as they come.
But I’ve felt the fangs sink into my neck.
I’ve drawn my cards, but I can see it in your eyes,
You’re holding out for something big this time.

You know that I can take a fall.
Spent a lifetime on my own.
Don’t test my patience, it’s running thin tonight.
You pulled a cowards card and drove ‘fore I saw you at my door.
I’ll admit failure, but that don’t make the wrong things right.

And I was dreaming,
About the things that used to matter most.

Chorus
And I’ve been haunted by the best of all the broken hearted.
And I feel sick to death inside.
I faked my way through years of feeling like tonight’s the night.
I’ve finally given up that fight.
Maybe I can push it all,
Push it all to the side.

I’ve drawn lines to save the better parts left in me.
But with redemption comes regrets.
And now the truth is, there ain’t one thing I wouldn’t change,
If I had the chance.
